Curriculum Map: Grade 3

Curriculum Overview Documents

Topic

The curriculum map is the single-best source to understand the year’s work in the module lessons for each grade level: a detailed view of the scope and sequence of the modules showing module titles, topics, targets, and standards explicitly taught and formally assessed in each module.

EL Education’s Grades 3–5 comprehensive literacy curriculum is 2 hours per day of con-tent-based literacy:

  • Module lessons (60 minutes of daily instruction): explicitly teach and formally assess all standards and strands of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English Language Arts and Literacy
  • Additional Language and Literacy (ALL) Block (60 minutes of daily instruction): provides additional practice and differentiated support for all students

The module lessons and ALL Block work together to help students develop literacy skills as they build knowledge about the world.

The ALL Block addresses five areas: independent reading; additional work with complex text; reading and speaking fluency/grammar, usage, and mechanics; writing practice; word study/vocabulary.
