Stand Up Stumps
Students at Elgin Math and Science Academy (EMSA), an EL Education school in Elgin, Illinois, built on their schools values of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) to create the Stand Up Stumps project. Students repurposed tree stumps and created 23 works of art out of the stumps that display themes of social justice and environmental advocacy, as related to students’ academic study. The stumps are placed around the community and can be explored with an interactive map that describes what each unique stump represents. This video was supported by a media grant for Better World Day 2021. The footage was captured by EMSA and Horizon Media.
