  • Bean plants or seedlings (two per group of four students and one as a control)
  • Potting soil (2 cups per student)
  • Seeds (grass or other; one teaspoon per pair)
  • Balance scale (optional; one per class)
  • Plastic cups (clear; four per group of four students)
  • Graduated cylinders (optional; 100 mL; one per group of four students)
  • Soda or water bottles (1-liter; one per group of four students)
  • Eyedroppers (one per group of four students)
  • Plastic baggies (optional; sandwich-sized; several to share)
  • Plastic storage bags (gallon-sized)
  • Poster board (ten pieces per class)
  • Plastic bottles (2-liter; one per pair)
  • Balls of string or yarn (five to eight per class)
  • Mirrors (hand or compact; twenty-five per class)
  • Electric tea kettle (one per class)
  • Sawdust, sand, or fertilizer (optional; several kinds to share)
