ELNC19 Plenaries: Jauhnell Miller and Yana Fuggerson
This video features the EL Education 2019 National Conference presentation of Jauhnell Miller and Yana Fuggerson, 6th grade students from Burns Elementary Middle School in Detroit, Michigan. They describe their work on the Better World Day project in which they joined together with 8 schools in Detroit Public Schools Community District to support literacy as a civil right in their city which is declared a book desert. Fifth graders along with local artists and activists built, designed, painted, and stocked 4 little libraries for community organizations that uphold human rights, inspired by the EL Education Language Arts Curriculum module, "Stories of Human Rights."
