ELNC19 Plenaries: Alejandro Torres and Karely Ortega Ortez

This video features the EL Education 2019 National Conference presentation of Alejandro Torres and Karely Ortega Ortez, 6th grade students from Silverton Elementary in Silverton, CO. They describe their work as "history heroes" on a year-long expedition and culminating Better World project. 4th and 5th grade students left their tiny, isolated community and traveled across Colorado to learn the history of their state from diverse perspectives. Students created a living history exhibit for their local museum to bring the little known story of their town to the forefront: the violent expulsion of all Chinese immigrants in 1902.
