- [Teacher] So I’m going to ask you to check out our core values for a second. What is the one core value that you want to keep in mind?

- [Narrator] When a school commits to a common set of character values, those values can be a foundation for classroom norms.

- Advocacy. You know how this other person could help themselves but it’s easier to just let them figure it out. No, you need to advocate and be that leader. So you know what it is, thumbs up!

- We’re gonna do a little work around reflecting on our own individual growth as coaches this year.

- [Narrator] Teachers model those character values in the way they interact with each other...

- And change to more per practice in four days than anything. So it was really cool.

- [Narrator] And with students.

- Be courageous. You guys are amazing. You have five minutes for your warm-up, okay? Nice to see you guys.

- That’s your job, right? Characteristics of an effective learner. What about the teacher?

- [Narrator] In classrooms, students build norms that describe what those character values could look like if everyone followed them carefully.

- [Teacher] Tiana?

- Effective teachers work at a reasonable pace.

- Wants the students to succeed.

- The HOWLs are not things that we just put up on the wall. They really are connected to your success as a student.

- [Narrator] Demonstrating positive character values through following norms is a central part of how students and teachers define their success in schools.

- It is a really important of this school. The same way we recognize people for honor roll and for National Honor Society, this is another thing that’s gonna be important for you as you move off to college.
