During the expedition, the students conducted research during an extended fieldwork experience, camping outdoors at the research site, working with a biologist who studies the Giant Palouse Earthworm. Students engaged in census sampling and experimental research in the field and later back in the classroom in the lab, where they raised and observed local earthworms.

The artwork in the book was the result of a collaboration with a professional collage artist who guided student learning. The students held a reading and a book signing for the community at a local bookstore to celebrate the book’s publication.
