York Elementary Students Create Free Lending Libraries
Students in grades K-3 created 15 little libraries to promote literacy.
Starting with an understanding of the power of reading, and brainstorming a list of places that could be made less boring with the addition of books, students at York Elementary in Middlebury, IN have now distributed over 1000 books to 15 sites around their town. Recipients include a dentist’s office, a tire store, a campground laundry room, and an animal clinic.
It is to be hoped that the locations haven’t taken the “possibly boring” designation too much to heart, as it’s all part of students fulfilling an authentic community need with their service project!
