Polaris Expeditionary Learning School Teacher Named to National Geographic Committee
Kevin Denton, a middle school Science and Math teacher at Polaris Expeditionary Learning School in Fort Collins, CO, has been named to the Steering Committee of National Geographic’s new Geo Educator Community. The initiative is focused on bringing together educators and thought leaders from different disciplines, age groups, and educational settings, who share a commitment to preparing young people to be successful and responsible citizens of an interconnected world. “The level of proficiency that students have as responsible and productive citizens of the global community will have a direct result on how prepared they will be to meet the demands of the 21st century workplace,” Kevin said.
As part of the Steering Committee, Kevin will help maintain a presence on National Geographic’s Edmodo page as well as its social media outlets. The committee will also work on professional development projects that may include planning and implementing some webinars and MOOC's for educators who want to focus more globally within their classroom.
Kevin will attend a kickoff meeting in Washington D.C. this summer where he'll spend time visioneering and planning for this one-year term.
“I foresee National Geographic making a big splash in the educational community in coming years and see a natural partnership with organizations like Expeditionary Learning and Fund for Teachers,” he said.
