In a video from Harvard's Graduate School of Education, Codman Academy Director Thabiti Brown explains how his faculty prepare for hard, in-the-moment conversations with kids. 

Anyone who has taught in a classroom recognizes the flood of emotion that comes when a student says something you know isn’t ok. Teachers know they must act, and also that some responses can escalate a situation rather than diffuse it. 

At Codman Academy, they don’t shy away from this fact; they prepare for it. In this video from the “Usable Knowledge” series, Thabiti Brown describes how adults in the building practice intervening, so they will be ready to call upon the empathy and clear thinking they hope to model for their students.
