Expeditionary Learning Gets Results: WV Prepares for Its First EL School

It doesn’t take much to get one of the 38 teachers, or crew members as they will be called, to talk about the new Explorer Academy, the first school in West Virginia to implement the Expeditionary Learning model of teaching. Just one visit to an EL 101 parent meeting makes it clear these teachers are bursting with excitement.
“I’m finally getting to teach the way I was taught to teach,” said Jennifer McComas, current kindergarten teacher at Peyton Elementary. McComas will be a kindergarten crew member at the new school.
