From the City Schools of Decatur website:

Clairemont Elementary School was named one of the 2011 Georgia Schools of Excellence in Student Achievement by the Georgia Department of Education. The Schools of Excellence program recognizes 26 schools across the state that have shown the greatest improvement or highest achievement.

“This is a tremendous honor for our district,” said Superintendent Phyllis Edwards. “Clairemont’s faculty, staff, students and families deserve this recognition for their continued gains in achievement.” According to the Georgia Schools of Excellence criteria, qualifying schools are chosen from each Congressional District in the following categories:

Top 10%: Schools that are in the top 10 percent in Georgia as measured by assessments in reading and mathematics.

Greatest Gains: Schools that demonstrated the greatest continuous gains in student achievement for the past three years as measured by assessments in reading and mathematics.

Clairemont Elementary is recognized in the Greatest Gains category. Since 2008, the number of Clairemont students meeting and exceeding the standards on the mathematics portion of the CRCT increased 9 percentage points from 82% to 91%. The school has also had significant gains in reading with an increase of 5 percentage points (92% to 97%) in the number of students meeting and exceeding the standards.

“I am so proud of our teachers and students,” Clairemont Principal Erin Wheeler said. “We take our job of providing the best educational experience for our children seriously and it is gratifying to be recognized for our hard work. I think this is also an acknowledgment that teaching through the lens of Expeditionary Learning works for our students.  Additionally, our School Leadership Team strategically considers the goals in our School Improvement Plan and assists in the steps to reaching our student achievement goals.  I want to thank our entire Clairemont community.”

All of the schools recognized as Georgia Schools of Excellence will receive a $1,000 check from program sponsor Georgia Natural Gas to use however they wish.
