Casco Bay Students March Against Hate
The New York Times' ongoing column, "This Week in Hate," recently featured a march organized by Casco Bay High School student and student school board representative Farhiyo Hassan in Portland, ME. Hassan had already been concerned about the recently announced ban on immigration from seven majority Muslim countries when she learned that four ninth-graders at Casco Bay had been victims of a hate crime. In support of those students, Hassan helped organize a 400-person march that included students, teachers, the superintendent, and the mayor. Her favorite chant? "No hate, no fear. Everyone is welcome here."
