Capital City Students' Recipes Featured on NPR's "The Salt"
Eleventh graders contributed to a global cookbook as part of their "Food for Justice" expedition.
The article details the process undertaken by Capital City Public Charter School students and their writing coaches from a literary non-profit, who guided students in crafting food-focused essays accompanied by family recipes.
Observing that Capital City “feels like a mini-United Nations” and that many of the students are the children of immigrants or immigrants themselves, the piece also notes the care that was taken to leave room for cultural expression throughout the project.
Five of the 81 recipes, plus essay excepts and beautiful student portraits, are also part of the article.
