The Silverton School District is seeking a versatile, passionate, and licensed Elementary Teacher committed to providing a rich educational experience for Kindergarten and 1st Grade students. This person will join the Silverton School Instructional Team for the 2022-2023 School Year.

About the Silverton School District

At Silverton School, we strive to empower every student and family through helping them carve a personalized path to social, emotional, physical, and academic health and success. We want to inspire every student and family to achieve more than they ever thought possible and to do their part to make the world an even better place.

Located in the heart of the San Juan Mountains at 9,318 feet above sea level, our remote and unique school is home to ~75 students and 15 teachers. Our mixed-level grades, abundant fieldwork opportunities, and focus on both academic achievement and social, emotional, and ethical learning makes our school a dynamic place where student, family, and teacher efficacy is central to our culture.

The Silverton School staff shares a united belief that we must meet students where they are on their learning journey to help them thrive. The curriculum at Silverton School is standards-based, provides multiple opportunities for personalized learning and projects, and values quality and depth of learning combined with a constant focus on revising and reflecting on learning and work.

Using a combination of the EL Education model, SEL,trauma-informed practices, and personalized learning, we serve a diverse group of learners and their families. The staff provides supports and opportunities for each student and their families and places a strong emphasis on interactive, project based, service based, hands-on learning experiences that are personalized to meet the academic and SEL needs of the students. The school focuses on the whole family, recognizing the importance of social and emotional needs for them as well.

Kindergarten-1st Grade Teacher

The Silverton School seeks an Early Childhood Teacher who will join the current K-12 staff as a critical member of the instructional team. This K-1 position is a multi-grade, multi-age classroom with approximately 12-15 K-1 students. The K-1 teacher will be responsible for overseeing a wide array of programming and structures to ensure academic quality, support teachers’ professional development, and continually nurture and support a strong , supportive, healthy school community culture, including addressing issues of inequity on any level. This person will be deeply involved in providing support for afterschool programs and supplemental programming for students and families.

We offer robust and expansive programming for a school district our size and have a deeply rooted commitment to providing services to families that normally fall outside the scope of a school. We believe that a wide range of student and family needs must be met in order for a student to fully engage in school. Therefore, we work as a school team to provide appropriate and adequate supports to both students and families. This requires school leadership to be versatile and able to balance academic, SEL, and physical needs of K-12 students in a respectful and professional manner.
