The Silverton School District is seeking a versatile, passionate, and licensed Elementary Teacher committed to providing a rich educational experience for 4th and 5th Grade students. This person will join the Silverton School Instructional Team as a long-term sub from November through May in the 2022-2023 School Year.

About the Silverton School District

At Silverton School, we strive to empower every student and family through helping them carve a personalized path to social, emotional, physical, and academic health and success. We want to inspire every student and family to achieve more than they ever thought possible and to do their part to make the world an even better place.

Located in the heart of the San Juan Mountains at 9,318 feet above sea level, our remote and unique school is home to ~75 students and 15 teachers. Our mixed-level grades, abundant fieldwork opportunities, and focus on both academic achievement and social, emotional, and ethical learning makes our school a dynamic place where student, family, and teacher efficacy is central to our culture.

The Silverton School staff shares a united belief that we must meet students where they are on their learning journey to help them thrive. The curriculum at Silverton School is standards-based, provides multiple opportunities for personalized learning and projects, and values quality and depth of learning combined with a constant focus on revising and reflecting on learning and work.

Using a combination of the EL Education model, SEL,trauma-informed practices, and personalized learning, we serve a diverse group of learners and their families. The staff provides supports and opportunities for each student and their families and places a strong emphasis on interactive, project based, service based, hands-on learning experiences that are personalized to meet the academic and SEL needs of the students. The school focuses on the whole family, recognizing the importance of social and emotional needs for them as well.

4th-5th Grade Teacher

The Silverton School seeks an Elementary Education Teacher who will join the current K-12 staff as a long term sub from December- May in the 2022-2023 school year. This 4-5 position is a multi-grade, multi-age classroom with approximately 12-15 4-5 students. The classes remain combined for reading, writing, social studies, and science, but the sub will only be responsible for teaching fourth grade math while fifth graders will receive instruction from another teacher.

Teaching at Silverton School is a truly unique and fulfilling educational experience. Small classes allow fantastic connections and relationships among students and teachers. Because Silverton School follows the EL Education Model, this long term sub will be responsible for teaching two long-term units or “expeditions” that allow for an interdisciplinary approach and foster in depth learning. For example, the fourth and fifth graders will spend December learning about Civics and spend the entire Spring semester immersing themselves in the Space Sciences. This is an optimal job for any teacher who loves science and social studies curriculum. Silverton School also believes in learning inside and outside the classroom, so, if willing, this long-term sub can also execute “fieldwork” or learning excursions outside of the classroom as regularly as they would like. Silverton School also places a high premium on Social Emotional Education, so the teacher will also have the chance to teach a daily 30-45 minute “Crew” class focused on developing students’ abilities to self-regulate, express themselves, and build relationships with their peers to create an optimal classroom culture.
