School Leader/Instructional Principal

The DDES Leadership team consists of the Executive Director, who leads strategic operations of the school, a School Leader who focuses on the instructional direction, an instructional coach, who supports our teachers and operates as an evaluative partner to the principal, and our student supports dean, who manages tiered support and behavior intervention for all students. In addition, DDES operates with an instructional leadership team model, in which teachers are also peer coaches, distributing expertise throughout the school.
The Downtown Denver Expeditionary School (DDES) is a K-5 independent, community-run charter school in the portfolio of Denver Public Schools. DDES was founded by a group of parents, community members and business leaders seeking a high-performing EL Education (formerly Expeditionary Learning) school to serve a diverse range of families who live, work, or learn in downtown Denver. DDES is one of 33 credentialed schools in a national network of more than 150 schools that work together with EL Education to challenge students to think critically and take active roles in their classrooms and communities, resulting in higher achievement and greater engagement in school.
Proven track record in instructional coaching, 2+ years
Experience on a school leadership team
Strong evidence of designing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum, and assessments
Strong evidence of implementing effective instructional practices that increase student learning
Proven ability to contribute to a high-performing leadership team, along with strong communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to work effectively informally and formally with individuals and families of diverse make-up, cultures and communities
A commitment to and thirst for continuously improving teaching and school culture through rigorous coaching and professional development
A passion for deeper learning that aligns with the core principles of EL Education
As part of a team you will:
Lead the Instructional Leadership Team
Work hand-in hand with the Executive Director to develop and implement the DDES mission and vision
Lead teacher supervision, evaluation, and coaching
Oversee the school’s School Performance Framework, Work Plan (UIP) and Improvement Plan.
Maintain a strong partnership with the EL Education Network
Lead robust weekly Professional Development for staff
Develop a master schedule and structural support to encourage data-driven, differentiated support for students.
Commit to innovating character education fostered through challenging academic work, service, and whole child learning
Lead curriculum, Instruction, Assessment systems development, adoption and implementation
Act as a discipline consult to the Student Support Dean

DDES anticipates an accelerated hiring process. Salary range for this position is $70-90k with a robust benefits package.
