The Elgin Math and Science Academy Charter School (EMSA, opens August, 2018 to all students residing in the U-46 attendance area in kindergarten through third gradefor our inaugural year.
EMSA is seeking a compelling, committed, and resourceful Registered School Nurse that will help to establish positive relationships with students and families while attending to student health needs.

An ideal candidate is someone who:
• Is able to satisfactorily perform all of the duties and responsibilities of this position
• Communicates effectively and accurately both in written and oral form with students,
parents, educational staff, and health care providers
• Works independently, completing assigned projects and duties in a timely and efficient manner
• Has basic computer skills
• Works effectively as part of a team with flexible roles
As an EMSA School Nurse you will:
• Provide direct nursing services based on accurate nursing assessment and guidelines set
forth by the school’s policies and procedures, state and local mandates, and the Illinois
Nurse Practice Act
• Correctly administer medications orally or with injections
• Assess complaints of student illness considering educational needs of the student
• Provide first aid and emergency care to students and staff
• Investigate for parasitic infestation, rash, or infection on students or staff
• Provide correct documentation for all nursing services completed including appropriate
documentation on the student accident form or employee injury form
• Review student health documents to ensure compliance
• Provide written and/or verbal communication to students in non-compliance with state
requirements and monitor situation until compliance accomplished
• As a mandated reporter, evaluate, report, and document possible child abuse/neglect situations
• Provide general health education to students, families, and staff to promote health
and wellness in the school setting and community
• Maintain the daily environments of the health services area and health care supplies
• Provide education and promotion of standard infection control principles and monitor student
population for infectious illnesses, reporting to the appropriate agencies as mandated
• Assist in care, monitoring, and maintenance of AED units within the school setting
• Have basic knowledges regarding nutrition and nutrient facts for student dietary needs
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Bachelors in Science of Nursing
• Current Illinois Registered Professional Nurse License
• Current Adult/Child CPR and AED certification
• Nursing experience of at least 5 years preferred in areas of school, pediatric,
adolescent, or community health
• Professional Educator License with School Nursing endorsement is preferred
• National School Nurse Certification is preferred
• Illinois Vision and Hearing Technician Certification is preferred. If nurse is not certified,
must be willing to participate in the IDHP vision and hearing technician certification course
• Communication and interpersonal skills to engage in a highly collaborative school environment
• Ability to develop relational trust with students, families, staff, and other community stakeholders
• Ability to tactfully and effectively deal with the public and staff at all levels in a personable
and professional manner
• Fluent in Spanish and English
• Expertise in working with English Language Learners
• Expertise in working with low-income populations
