ABOUT THE POSITION
The Lead Curriculum Designer, Digital Specialist is responsible for informing the development of the vision and strategy for digital curriculum products, and overseeing content development of digital versions of the EL Education K-8 Language Arts Curriculum including core and ancillary products. This includes extensive external collaboration with a diverse portfolio of schools and educational technology organizations, internal collaboration with EL staff to innovate on new products to support educators using the EL Education K-8 Language Arts Curriculum, and collaborating with the Product Team to support maintenance of existing products. The Lead Curriculum Designer, Digital Specialist is also responsible for creating internal systems, structures, and trainings related to the new products created. S/he will provide direct services (in person or through video-based coaching) for high priority partnerships.
This is a full-time, national position that reports to the Director of Curriculum Design.
This position is grant funded. Contract extension beyond grant expiration is possible but not guaranteed.
Specific responsibilities include:
Inform the development of the vision and strategy for digital curriculum products in collaboration with the Director of Curriculum Design and Curriculum Product team
Support the Product Team with the design and collection of market research to identify field needs and digital curriculum products currently available.
Analyze market research as well as existing knowledge and experience in digital curriculum design to develop a vision for new digital access to curriculum products to support the implementation of our K-8 Language Arts Curriculum for diverse, broad audiences
Support the planning and integration of new products in the project plan
Support grant writing to seek funding for new digital curriculum products
Support the development of diverse partnerships with external organizations in support of the digital design vision and strategy, in partnership with the Product Team
Oversee the content development and maintenance of digital versions of the EL Education K-8 Language Arts Curriculum including core and ancillary products in collaboration with Director of Curriculum Design, Curriculum Design Team staff, Product team, and Publications team
Collaborate with product team on design of project plans for new products.
Collaborate with product team on the overall design of templates, forms, and the structure of curriculum products for print, digital, and other distribution that are aligned to user needs and best practices, including ADA compliance
Collaborate with Director of Curriculum Design and product team to hire and train diverse staff and consultants
Engage external experts, advisory boards, and support in the design and creation of digital products
Manage communication for project design consultants and experts with guidance from the Director of Curriculum Design. Send out regular updates and organize agendas and facilitating meetings
Manage materials delivery and feedback collection from content review panels
Build internal capacity to ensure that EL Education field staff are equipped with deep expertise to support implementation of new digital curriculum products across partnership types, in order to achieve impact goals
Design systems and structures for field staff to support ongoing learning and collaboration
Create a robust suite of programmatic resources for EL staff to use when coaching diverse audiences on digital curriculum products
Build external capacity of instructional coaches to support implementation of digital products, with integrity, across partnership types in order to achieve impact goals
Design and facilitate the “train the trainer” model (including developing all requisite programmatic resources)
Deliver coaching and professional development to diverse audiences, both internal and external (~approximately 40-50 days per year)
Deliver coaching services and professional development (in person or via video-based coaching) in high priority network schools and literacy partnerships to support high-quality implementation of digital curriculum products
Apply learning from partner-facing work to consider implications for building internal capacity (EL staff), external capacity (train the trainer), and programmatic resources
Travel up to ~30% of the time (internal staff events and partner-facing work)
A successful candidate will have:
A passion for EL Education's mission and vision
Passionate, unequivocal conviction that EL’s curriculum will help fulfill on our mission and support student achievement
A four-year college degree; masters degree preferred
Demonstrated experience and deep knowledge of best practices for K-8 ELA and digital curriculum design
Deep knowledge and experience with serving students in historically underserved communities or with high free and reduced lunch populations
Committed to working effectively with diverse community populations, and expected to strengthen such capacity if hired
Expertise in EL Education’s curriculum materials; curriculum design experience preferred
Demonstrated experience designing systems and structures to support adult learning
Demonstrated experience supporting complex, deadline-intensive projects
Strong written and verbal communication skills (phone, email, video conference, etc.)
