Located in Asheville, North Carolina, Evergreen Community Charter School is a tuition-free, public school serving approximately 400 students in grades K-8. We follow the EL Education (formerly Expeditionary Learning) model, a research-substantiated model for school reform with roots in the adventure and leadership organization, Outward Bound. Teach Kindergarten class using the EL Education (formerly Expeditionary Learning) model, which emphasizes integrated, differentiated instruction, experiential learning, collaborative planning and teaching, student responsibility, environmental education, and community involvement. Responsible for teaching the NC Standard Course of Study for language arts, math, science, social studies to one first grade class with support from an Associate Teacher. Practice formative and summative assessment, provide critical feedback and guidance, establish rapport with students and parents, and work collaboratively with the Kindergarten team. Professional teachers with passion, flexibility, high expectations, consistent classroom management, and a sense of adventure are encouraged to apply.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and North Carolina teacher licensure (or eligibility for licensure) in elementary education.
Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated expertise in the teaching of primary or elementary grade students, experience administering NC Read to Achieve assessments, and additional skills/interests in one of the following areas: gifted/talented education, Orton-Gillingham-based literacy instruction, special education, environmental/outdoor education, and/or service learning.
