Located in Asheville, North Carolina, Evergreen Community Charter School is a tuition-free, public
school serving approximately 450 students in grades K-8. We follow the EL Education model, a
research-substantiated model for school reform with roots in the adventure and leadership

Position Description

Teach fifth grade classes using the EL Education model, which emphasizes integrated, differentiated
instruction, experiential learning, collaborative planning and teaching, student responsibility,
environmental education, and community involvement. Responsible for teaching the North Carolina
Standard Course of Study standards for language arts and social studies to two fifth grade classes of
approximately 26 students each. Practice formative and summative assessment, provide critical
feedback and guidance, establish rapport with students and parents, and co-plan and work
collaboratively with the fifth grade team. Professional teachers with passion, flexibility, high
expectations, consistent classroom management, and a sense of adventure are encouraged to apply.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and North Carolina teacher licensure (or eligibility for
licensure) in Elementary (k-6) Education.
Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated expertise in the teaching of upper elementary grade students,
with additional skills/interests in one of the following areas: differentiated instruction, environmental
literacy, character education, social justice and/or service learning.
