English Learner Inclusion Teacher

Capital City Lower School seeks experienced and motivated English Learner Inclusion Teachers to join our team for the 2018-2019 school year. The EL Inclusion Teacher is responsible for working together with the General Education Teacher to deliver instruction to identified English Learners (ELs). Strong collaboration with the general education teacher is required to provide accommodations and differentiated instruction that meets the need of ELs.  While EL Inclusion Teachers have specific responsibilities to ELs, they are expected to support the success of all Capital City students. The position includes co-planning, co-teaching, and co-assessing with the General Education Teachers to maintain a culturally responsive classroom and inclusive environment that supports English learners.
This is a 10-month position, which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

In the following areas, the EL Inclusion Teacher is responsible for:
Specific responsibilities include:

  • Planning for daily instruction. This may require researching best practices and evidence-based strategies to address specific needs of ELs.  
  • Meeting and planning regularly with the grade level team. 
  • Providing effective instruction aligned with content and language standards, such as Common Core and WIDA. 
  • Serving as the primary contact with families regarding service delivery for ELs. 
  • Ensuring records for ELs are up to date, well organized, and contain necessary progress notes and assessments.
  • Conducting, organizing and analyzing ongoing assessments of student performance using multiple assessment tools. Analyze data to ensure ELs are making adequate academic progress. 
  • Ensuring that identified students receive necessary accommodations for standardized assessments and other school administered assessments.
  • Supporting ELs in understanding their linguistic and sociocultural assets and advocating for their needs.  
  • Working collaboratively with other teachers and engaging in regular professional development to improve knowledge and skills
Requirements:  Two of the following—Master’s degree in English as a second language (ESL), elementary education, or literacy; a valid ESL or teaching certificate, 2+ years of full-time teaching experience. Experience working in diverse and inclusive settings and the ability to speak Spanish are desired.
