Within the last five years, Genesee Community Charter School has focused its attention on building strong literacy structures to support all elementary students. The school has a unique approach to teaching literacy by integrating and enhancing elements of the EL Education K-5 Language Arts Curriculum by creating their own ELA Modules using the four Ts (Target, Topic, Text, Task). K-2 also has adopted EL’s Reading Foundations Skills Block Curriculum adding enhancements of Sensory Integration. This Site Seminar will reveal integrated learning expeditions through the lens of literacy, identifying how language structures play a role in all disciplines including mathematics and the arts. Additionally, the school has developed a uniquely strong partnership with Roberto Clemente School #8 in Rochester City School District to implement the Skills Block Curriculum, forming a collegial collaboration like no other district-charter relationship.  This Site Seminar offers opportunities to explore Genesee Community Charter School through four different strands: Primary (K-2) Integrated Literacy, Intermediate (3-6) Integrated Literacy (both with a focus on Core Practice 13), Arts Integration (with a focus on Core Practice 18), and Facilitating Collegial Collaboration (with a focus on Core Practice 36).  All four strands will use Core Practice 9: Designing Learning Expeditions as an anchor to guide their learning. Join our diverse elementary community and experience the intersection of Literacy and Expedition!
