Has your school established classroom communities that are respectful, collaborative, and growth-oriented yet you are still struggling to establish this equally well for all students in your Crews? Believing that all people seek a peaceful social life, this institute will support teachers in developing systems, structures and practices that are rooted in respect and solidarity with all students so that they are able to move toward taking active responsibility for their impact on the larger crew. This institute will include site-based learning at Polaris Charter Academy in which participants will have the opportunity to observe restorative practices in action. Note regarding target audience: this institute is targeted towards schools that have well-established Crew structures and practices and strong Management in the Active Classroom Practices. If you are new to Crew or managing an active EL Education classroom, please see our catalog for the We are Crew virtual institute.
- Engage with other educators and leaders from across the nation to cultivate a community of adult crew as you dive into Core Practice 21: Create a Community of Learning and co-construct knowledge together.
- After grounding yourself in advanced MAC strategies you will explore deeper restorative practices and be immersed in a school-based context and watch students in action.
- Enhance your understanding of how your current systems and structures impact classroom and school-wide culture.
- Evolve your ability to create a learning community that is rooted in a sense of belonging and accountability and co-owned with students.
