Another memorable EL Education National Conference has drawn to a close, and we're still basking in the glow of all of the learning, growing, and community-building that took place in Detroit. Whether you were there in person or in spirit, there are plenty of fantastic moments to share.
Here are just a few highlights from Motown:
- Opening remarks from Scott Hartl, EL Education President & CEO
- Genesee Community Charter School's Chris Dolgos named 2016 Klingenstein Teacher Award recipient
- Casco Bay High School's Principal Derek Pierce named 2016 Silverberg Leadership Award recipient
- A sneak peek at some of the fantastic photos captured around ELNC16
- Crew spirit in spades brought to you by the EL Education 2016 National Conference photo booth
Student Keynote: High school students at Harborside Academy in Kenosha, Wisconsin contribute in significant ways to their community as a core part of their academic work - at every grade level, every year. At this year's National Conference, Harborside students and graduates shared how the ethic of service at their school permeates school culture and is a foundation for learning expeditions that contribute across the city, collaborating with senior citizens, veterans and elementary students.

Keynote Speaker: Jonathan Poullard, President of Equity Consulting Group, has been specializing in organization and team development, multicultural education and leadership training for the past 25 years. As a dynamic national presenter and trainer, he delivers cutting-edge empowerment programs through an appreciative inquiry lens for senior level corporate leaders and staff, higher education institutions and non-profit organizations.
EL Education National Conference Book Drive: Honoring EL Education’s Design Principle of Service and Compassion, we invited attendees to bring a book to National Conference that were donated to support literacy efforts in Detroit. The books benefited youth who participate in programs and initiatives hosted by Don Bosco Hall, a private non-profit agency in Detroit, which provides supportive human services that enhance the quality of life for families in the Metropolitan Detroit-Wayne County community.
Student Work: See our online exhibition guide featuring SWANC (Student Work at NC).
Support: Our National Conference was made possible through the generous commitment of our philanthropic sponsors and the EL Education Board of Directors.

This year, we were grateful to have the support of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and the Walton Family Foundation, Crew Sponsors of the 2016 National Conference.
