Learning expeditions are the signature EL Education curricular structure. They make both content standards and Common Core literacy come alive through long-term, in-depth studies of real-world topics. Participants attending this institute will dive into the whys and hows of learning expeditions. They will be led through the process of selecting a topic, developing case studies, and designing authentic final products aligned to ELA and content standards. Additionally, they will learn criteria for worthy anchor texts, and begin to consider ways to engage students with experts and fieldwork.

Note regarding target audience: This institute will be differentiated, and is intended both for teams designing a new expedition and teams refining existing expeditions. Designing expeditions is best done collaboratively: the institute is for teams designing together or individual teachers and their instructional coach planning a stand-alone expedition. At least one participant from the team should have experience with EL Education, as this is not considered an introductory institute about the model.

Please note that this is a two part offering. It occurs on February 12-13 and March 5, 2018.
