With the Fund for Teachers (FFT) deadline fast approaching--January 31st, for the uninitiated--it's time for a quick check in. How is your application going? Speeding along? Dealing with a little writer's block? No matter where you are in your process, a little inspiration can always help to push you across that finish line. Here's an example of a stellar project from this past grant season:

During the summer of 2016, Luseane Tafisi and Whitney Anopol of Pacific Heritage Academy in Salt Lake City, UT embarked on a learning adventure-of-a-lifetime when they traveled across several cities and towns in New Zealand. The pair spent over two weeks in New Zealand investigating how educators implement Pacific Heritage culture into the curriculum and school culture to better engage and teach Pacific Islander students and their families.

Here is just a bit of what they had to say about their experience:

The opportunity to travel to New Zealand was a once in a lifetime experience and we are so grateful to Fund for Teachers for allowing us to go on this voyage. As the first group of teachers at our school to receive a Fund for Teachers Fellowship, we look forward to helping other teachers dream and create their own Fellowship. We encourage everyone to apply for a fellowship that will help them empathize and understand the needs of their diverse group of students. We can talk about our fellowship and explain what we learned, but there will be no way for us to share the feelings that we had while visiting New Zealand. There was a strong sense of pride, love and respect for culture at many of the schools we went to. The impact on our practice will forever be changed. While we have started many new things, we still have more work to do and look forward to improving our practice and implementing everything we learned.

It's worth mentioning that Tafisi and Anopol also made use of the applicant support offered by EL Education including attending our ELNC15 FFT information session. If you have lingering questions as you enter these final months of the application process, be sure to email us at FFTinfo@ELeducation.org.
